East Project

Promotion of youth projects in the Western Balkans

The East Project is the “youth” programme of the Department for Cooperation with Eastern Europe, which is part of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The programme is implemented by the National Youth Council of Switzerland under a mandate agreement. The East Project supports youth projects that are organized and implemented on a participative basis, offers unbureaucratic initial financing and customized guidance, and provides networking possibilities with youth associations and other youth actors.

The programme has an annual budget of CHF 80,000, which is used to promote small projects. A maximum of CHF 10,000 is awarded to each project. The East Project supports projects in seven target countries in the Western Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova and Montenegro.

The East Project has existed since 1992 and has so far provided financial assistance and support to almost 300 youth projects.

The SDC mandate is reaching its end. The Swiss National Youth Council is therefore unable at the time to provide funding for projects with youth organisations from the Balkans and Moldova. Any further information will be posted here. We thank you for your understanding. Until then, we advise you to contact the foundation movetia if your project complies with their criteria.
